The College of Psychologists takes care of licensing and only licenses the best candidates with the best education. Social Workers have completed university and graduate school education with a bachelor's degree or master's degree in social work. The province of NB registers all social workers. Counselors may or may not have a degree or graduate degree. Many counselors belong to the Canadian Counseling Association or the CCA. There is no legislative body in New Brunswick who governs counselors so it is best to ask the individual counselor about his/her education and experience. Because of the lack of licensing requirements most health insurance plans do not cover counselors.

Years ago we would have to visit a doctor or local hospital to get a referral to a licensed psychologist. This is still an OK method but can be very time consuming and labor intensive.
Now we can use a couple of simple methods to find a psychologist fast and easy. You could start with the phone book white pages or yellow pages. You will find many psychologists listed in the white pages. There will be far less located in the yellow pages as the yellow pages can be quite costly. So costly that most younger psychologists don't use it anymore.
The younger/newer therapists are turning toward the internet to promote their business. This is good news for you as a potential client as finding your psychologist might be as easy as searching in Google. Go to Google or your favorite search engine and search for the following:

Psychologist in Moncton NB / Sussex NB / Saint John NB / Fredericton NB
Google does a great job organizing the search results according to the location and specialization of the psychologists.
